A Simple Gesture - Yuba Sutter
A Simple Gesture began in 2014 to fight hunger here in Yuba-Sutter.
St. John’s Episcopal Church has worked since then to provide non-perishable food supplies to
local food pantries, including:
Loaves and Britches here at St. John’s, 800 D St. in Marysville.
Catholic Ladies Relief Society at 8th and B Streets in Marysville,
St. Vincent de Paul at 222 Clark Ave., Yuba City,
and our most recent partner,
Yuba County Office of Education, 935 14th st. in Marysville.
Participating households are given a sturdy tote, or "cool green bag".
They fill it over the course of two months by purchasing extra cans or packages of non-perishable food items during regular grocery shopping trips.
On the second Saturday of even numbered months, volunteers pick up the filled green bag from donors’ doorsteps and leave an empty bag in its place to begin the cycle again.
Donated food is then distributed from the food pantries listed above.
Having the additional non-perishables frees food pantry funds to purchase more fresh foods, such as dairy, produce and meat, to provide nutritional balance.
Your donations help feed area families in crisis, working poor, the
under-employed, and those who are unhoused.
